The festival of Eid-ul-Adha, popularly known as Bakrid was celebrated with traditional fervour in the State on Thursday. The festival was held amid strict security arrangements made by the police in all districts. To mark the celebrations, Muslims dressed in festive attires and offered prayers at mosques and Eidgahs across the State and other places in the state on the occasion.

Many also offered ‘Qurbani’ ( sacrifice) as part of their tradition. The civic bodies and the departments concerned had also made elaborate arrangements for the occasion including for cleanliness and uninterrupted power supply among others. Several routes remained diverted throughout the day to ensure people celebrating Eid can offer Namaz without any inconvenience. The officials said that the animal sacrifices were done at usual traditional places as per the orders.

Considering the recent disturbance among communities in the State, the government had also ordered the director general of police Ashok Kumar to make tight security arrangements to ensure harmony is maintained among people and law and order are not disturbed on Eid. The police stayed alerted in crowded places, especially near mosques and Eidgahs.

The police were also monitoring social media posts to ensure no misleading information surfaces online that can potentially trigger people to disturb law and order. The bomb disposal teams were also active in various crowded places of Dehradun as per the officials. This Eid symbolises Prophet Ibrahim’s readiness to sacrifice his son and also marks the completion of the Haj pilgrimage.
