Three employees of the Indian Medical Council (IMC) in Uttarakhand were arrested by the special investigation team (SIT) of Dehradun for allegedly assisting Imlakh Khan, the main accused of fake Bachelor of Ayurveda Medicine and Surgery (BAMS) degree case, in completing the registrations of those who bought the fake degrees from him. The Dehradun senior superintendent of police, Daleep Singh Kunwar said that the arrested accused Vimal Prasad (37) is a resident of Tehri and worked as a junior assistant in IMC. The other two accused are Ankur Maheshwari (43) and Vivek Rawat (43) from Uttar Pradesh who worked as personal assistants in IMC. The SSP informed that the three accused were called for questioning by the SIT as part of the ongoing probe into their alleged involvement in providing fake BAMS degrees. He said, “During the inquiry, they confessed to facilitating Imlakh Khan in getting the registrations of those who bought the fake BAMS degrees from him. The buyers would then start practising ayurveda in their respective clinics using the fake degree and the IMC registration certificate. They revealed that Khan used to contact them for the registration process in IMC after selling fake degrees. They used to get about Rs 60,000 for each registration and NOC by Khan.” The police also recovered forged documents and stamps of various colleges from several states along with some documents of IMC. It is pertinent to mention here that the police have arrested seven fake doctors in this case so far. The director general of police Ashok Kumar has also issued directions to book Imlakh Khan under the Gangster Act to confiscate the properties acquired illegally by him.
