To make rural women self sufficient in promoting and marketing their business, the Dehradun district administration has decided to provide them marketing skill training. In the last few years, the administration has provided various kinds of skill development training to hundreds of women associated with various Self Help Groups (SHGs) to make them financially independent. According to the officials, various rural women of SHGs have been trained in many skills like mushroom production, baking, tailoring, and making LED light strings and light bulbs. Most of the time, the district administration provides platforms for such women to exhibit their products.

However, now the officials want these rural women to be capable of marketing and selling their products in open markets among the other existing private businesses. “We have decided to provide marketing skill training to rural and economically disadvantaged women of SHGs as most of them hesitate to market their products in open market business,” stated the chief development officer (CDO), Nitika Khandelwal. According to her, the reach of the products prepared by these women will not extend beyond the government departments and associated events if these women will fail to market their products. “This training will help them to get more exposure in the open market so that they can get the confidence to market and promote their own products.

Competition with private business operators will also compel these women to make quality products and keep improving them to survive in the market,” stated Khandelwal. The CDO said that the district administration has approached the State Government for the approval of this plan of providing marketing skill training to rural women. She disclosed that some plans have been postponed due to the second wave of Covid-19 but the administration will start the training of the rural women soon after it gets permission from the State Government.
