Death toll mounts to 2021; 4339 new patients reported on Friday

The unrelenting onslaught of the second wave of the contagion of Covid-19 is continuing to test the health system of Uttarakhand. On Friday the virus claimed a record 49 lives in the state. The state health department reported 4339 new cases of the disease which increased the cumulative tally of patients to 142349 in the state. The death toll from the disease has mounted to 2021 in the state. The authorities discharged 1179 patients of the disease from different hospitals after their recovery on Friday. A total of 107450 patients have so far recovered from the disease.

The sample positivity rate has increased to 4.07 percent in the state. On a positive note more than 35000 samples were tested on the day. A total of 27690 samples are yet to be tested in different laboratories of the state.

In Government Doon Medical College (GDMC) hospital a staggering 19 deaths were reported on Friday.  Nine patients succumbed to death at Sushila Tiwari government hospital on the day while six deaths each were reported from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Rishikesh and Himalayan hospital Jollygrant on the day. Two patients died at Vinay Vishal hospital Roorkee while one patient each was reported dead at Mahant Indiresh hospital Dehradun, Kailash hospital Dehradun, Ujala hospital Kashipur, Synergy hospital Dehradun and Sai hospital Haldwani. One person suffering from Covid-19 expired at home in Chamoli district.

In Dehradun 1605 new patients of the disease were reported on Friday.  Similarly 1115 patients were found in Haridwar district, 332 in Udham Singh Nagar, 317 in Nainital district, 243 in Pauri, 187 in Champawat, 184 in Chamoli, 78 from Tehri, 40 in Pithoragarh, 38 in Uttarkashi, 35 in Rudraprayag and 34 in Bageshwar districts on Friday. In the small mountainous district of Champawat 301 samples were tested out of which 187 were found positive which indicate a very high Infection Rate of 62 percent.

 The state now has 29949 active patients of the disease. Dehradun continues to be at the top of the table of active cases of the disease with 10697 patients, Haridwar has 8504, Nainital 3305,  Udham Singh Nagar 2319, Pauri 1402, Tehri 964, Almora 615, Champawat 521, Chamoli 449, Rudraprayag 412 and Uttarkashi 341 active cases of the disease. 

In the ongoing vaccination drive the state health department vaccinated 62872 people in different parts of the state on Friday. In the state 322204 people have been fully vaccinated so far as they have received both the first and second dose of the vaccine. The Chief Operations Officer (COO) of state Covid-19 control room, Dr Abhishek Tripathi said that 637 vaccine sessions were organised in different parts of the state on Friday.
