Covid-19; 51 positive cases, 35 recoveries & 2 deaths reported in State on Friday
Vaccination drive continues as many including Governor receive shots
A total of 51 positive cases of Covid-19 were reported on Friday along with 35 recoveries and deaths of two Covid patients in the state. Currently, the total number of active cases of Covid in the state is 556 with a recovery percentage of 96.24. Meanwhile, a total of 19,531 beneficiaries were vaccinated in 205 sessions in the state on Friday. The governor Baby Rani Maurya and Bharatiya Janata Party state president Banshidhar Bhagat were among those who were vaccinated during the day. According to the health department a total of 47,405 beneficiaries have been fully vaccinated in the state so far while 18,500 people aged above 60 years and 894 persons in the 45-59 years age group with comorbidity have been administered the first dose of the vaccine.
The governor received her vaccine shot at the Government Doon Medical College hospital. The governor said that she was feeling completely normal after receiving the shot. Talking to the media, Maurya appealed to the people of the state to get vaccinated without any fear when their turn comes. Stating that the vaccine is completely safe, she thanked scientists, doctors, nurses and all other frontline workers stating that due to their efforts, the vaccination programme is being conducted successfully. She further said that even after being vaccinated, the beneficiaries should continue to observe precautions like wearing masks in public, maintaining social distancing and observing hand hygiene. Talking to the health director general Dr Tripti Bahuguna, the governor sought information about the status of the vaccination programme in the state. Maurya told the DG to send daily reports of the vaccination activity to the Raj Bhawan. Public awareness should also be raised on the subject of vaccination against Covid, she added.
Meanwhile, of the 51 positive cases reported on Friday, 26 were from Dehradun, four from Haridwar, 17 from Nainital, three from Udham Singh Nagar and one from Bageshwar. The districts of Pauri, Pithoragarh, Rudraprayag, Tehri, Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Champawat and Almora registered zero positive cases of Covid on the day.
