The Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Karan Mahara has said that the Modi government has trashed the Industrial Development Scheme (IDS) started in the year 2017 for industrial development of the Himalayan States.

Interacting with the media at the Congress Bhawan here on Friday the PCC president said that the IDS scheme was launched in the year 2017 for industrial development in the Himalayan states of Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Jammu and Kashmir. Under the scheme a provision of granting 30 per cent subsidy was made. Mahara said that the scheme was for a period of five years but it was shelved in only four years. He claimed that Uttarakhand has only received Rs 1,100 crore under the scheme till date and a subsidy amount of Rs 5,000 crore is still pending on part of the Union government. He said that apart from exposing betrayal of the union government the episode also puts up a question mark on the industrial policy of the State.

The PCC president said that the Trivendra Singh Rawat government had organised an investor’s summit only to influence the Lok Sabha election of 2019 and the State got nothing from the summit. He added that the summit of 2023 appears to be a replica of the summit of 2018.

He said that the State government has spent a sum of Rs 38 crore on wall paintings, Rs 22 crore on landscaping and Rs 18 crore to colour the shops in saffron colour for the summit.

The vice president (organisation) of Uttarakhand Congress Mathura Dutt Joshi, chief spokesperson Garima Dasauni, media advisor Amrarjeet Singh, spokespersons Rajesh Chamoli and Sheespal Singh Bisht accompanied the PCC president.
