The leaders of Uttarakhand Congress have expressed happiness on the order of the Supreme Court in which it has imposed a stay on the order of the Uttarakhand High Court  for removing encroachments from Railways land in Vanbhoolpura area of Haldwani. Many senior leaders of the party including the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Karan Mahara, leader of opposition (LoP) in state assembly Yashpal Arya, secretary All India Congress Committee (AICC) Qazi Nizamuddin, Bhuwan Kapdi and Sumit Hridayesh were present in the SC on the day. The PCC president Mahara said that 4500 families residing in the Vanbhoolpura were asked to vacate their houses within a week due to which a threat of about 60,000 people becoming homeless was there and an atmosphere of fear was prevailing in these areas. He said that the affected people were sitting on a Dharna with their children in severe cold but the State government took no notice of their plight. Terming the decision of SC as victory of the truth, Mahara said that a ray of hope has emerged for the affected people. He said that the government should have taken steps to rehabilitate affected people before making any plans to demolish their houses.

Mahara said that two primary schools, sewer lines, two inter colleges, two water tanks, Primary Health Centre (PHC) and banks were set up by the government in the area and the dictatorial attitude of the Railways is surprising. He claimed that the railways have not demarcated its land properly while some of the land is said to be of the State government. The PCC president said that the whole episode have deflated the slogan of Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi of providing shelter to everyone. He said that the episode has also exposed the inhumane face of the Dhami government of Uttarakhand.
