BJP welcomes CM’s statement on action to check land jihad in U’khand

The Bharatiya Janata Party has welcomed chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami’s statement a day after he said that ‘religious’ structures built illegally will be demolished and that land jihad will not be allowed in the State. The party alleged that the Congress has always stood in support of such illegal structures as it is part of its policy. The BJP

State president Mahendra Bhatt has questioned why the Congress is pained by action against illegal constructions by a particular community.  Bhatt said that the party workers and general public are standing in support of the chief minister in the drive to demolish illegal religious structures on forests and other government lands across the State. After bringing out a stringent anti-conversion law, the Dhami government has taken a historic step against actions with dubious intentions and illegal actions. This is an important step towards preserving the Sanatan culture and identity of Uttarakhand, said Bhatt. “All political parties should appreciate this step as it is in the interests of the State but the Pradesh Congress Committee president Karan Mahara’s reaction makes it clear that the party is still standing in support of appeasement of a particular community. The appeal made by the PCC president to provide relaxation in cases of old illegally built religious structures encroaching on government land is aimed at appeasing a particular community considering it the party’s votebank,” said the BJP State president.

Taking a dig at the Congress’ postcard campaign to send complaints to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and chief minister Dhami, the BJP State president said that the Congress party is left without issues and ideas. The court and public have agreed to steps taken by the State government on many of the issues being raised by the Congress in its campaign. The Congress should adopt a constructive approach and appreciate good decisions taken on issues of public interest by the government.

He further said that the Congress leaders eagerly make statements on issues which entail allegations on Sanatan culture but are remaining silent on action being taken against illegal religious structures, institutions and persons who are in the way of strengthening mutual harmony in the State.

It will be recalled that on Friday, the CM had stated that about 1,000 mazars and such constructions had been identified encroaching on forest and other government land across the State. Dhami had stressed that the government will not allow land jihad in Uttarakhand.
