The issue of grade pay of police personnel drew heated exchanges between the members of opposition and treasury benches on the third day of the monsoon session of Uttarakhand assembly. Raising the issue under rule 58, the leader of opposition (LoP) Pritam Singh said that the grade pay of the police personnel of the state has been reduced to Rs 2,800. The deputy leader of Congress party in Uttarakhand assembly, Karan Mahra also criticised the government for being insensitive towards the police personnel.

In his response the agriculture minister and chairman of the cabinet subcommittee on the subject Subodh Uniyal said that orders were issued on the grade pay of police personnel during the Congress government and the BJP government is trying to correct things. He said that the issue is pending in the cabinet subcommittee and the government would take the decision on the basis of the report of the committee.

It is pertinent to mention here that resentment is simmering in the ranks of the Uttarakhand police on the issue of grade pay.

Under the new plan a grade pay of Rs 1,800 would be given to Sepoy on completion of 20 years of service. Earlier a grade pay of Rs 4,600 was given to Sepoy on completion of 20 years of service.
