Commuters face less traffic hassles than expected on first day of Assembly session

Traffic remained affected due to rallies and dug up routes on the first day of the Assembly session on Tuesday. However, people opined that traffic jams were not as severe as they have become accustomed to over the years during Assembly sessions, especially in the morning. Since the number of protest rallies was significantly less on the first day of the session, the traffic was not as severe as in past years. Sahastradhara resident Anuj Sharma said that he left his home 20 minutes before his usual office time to avoid traffic jams on routes near Rispana bridge. He said that he reached 15 minutes early because there was not much traffic on the routes. “I have always been at least 10-15 minutes late during Assembly sessions despite leaving home early.  For the first time in the past three years I was early,” he said.  Similar thoughts were shared by some students who said that the traffic was denser on the roads than usual but they were not stuck in it for long. “The traffic movement was quite smooth around 11:30 AM, especially for two-wheelers near Haridwar Road. The routes got busier around the afternoon as the police had barricaded some routes but it was still not as bad as it was expected due to diversions. However I think traffic will get worse in the next two days,” said a college student Rishabh Verma. The senior superintendent of police Daleep Singh Kunwar said on traffic management during the Assembly session that the traffic police have prepared a traffic plan that causes minimum inconvenience to commuters. Though a basic traffic plan was released for public convenience, the authorities have been directed to use their discretion to control traffic as per the requirement, he added. Meanwhile, hundreds of guest teachers took out a protest rally against the government on Thursday. They demanded that the government should increase their stipend and not remove guest teachers appointed in the past after new recruitments.
