Saturday, 03 December 2022 | PNS | NEW TEHRI

The students of the government PG college in New Tehri protested against Higher Education minister Dhan Singh Rawat and climbed onto the roof of the college demanding student union elections. As soon as the information about the students climbing on the roof was received, the police and administrative officials reached the spot. Somehow, the officials managed to convince the students to climb down from the roof.

On Friday, many students gathered at the gate of PG college. They raised slogans against the minister for students union election not being held in the college. After this the students climbed on the roof of the college. The principal in-charge and teachers came out of the rooms as soon as the news of students climbing the roof spread on campus. They saw that many students were raising slogans on the roof while carrying what appeared to be petrol in a bottle. In-charge principal DPS Bhandari tried to convince the students without success. The principal said that the student union elections are a government-level matter.  New Tehri police station house officer Kamal Mohan Bhandari reached the spot and held talks with the agitating students. After much persuasion by the officials and assurance of taking their demands to the higher authorities, the students came down from the roof.
