SSPs will be deemed to have failed in controlling crime if police fail to meet deadline: DGP

Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has issued strict instructions for swiftly solving the recent crimes reported in the State. He said that the State government is strict when it comes to controlling crimes. Meanwhile, the Director General of Police (DGP) Ashok Kumar has issued an ultimatum to the police officials concerned to solve the three recent cases- the murder of a man in broad daylight in Kashipur, armed robbery at the home of minister Prem Chand Aggrawal’s cousin at Doiwala and firing at two police personnel in Haridwar district. He said that the respective police station in-charges and circle officers (COs) will be removed from their posts if they fail to solve these cases within three days.

The DGP has also stated in the order that the senior superintendent of police (SSP) of Udham Singh Nagar, Dehradun and Haridwar districts will be deemed to have failed in controlling crime in their respective areas if these cases are not solved within three days. A 65-year-old man Mehal Singh was shot and killed in broad daylight at Kashipur in Udham Singh Nagar on October 13. The deceased was into the mining business and was allegedly receiving threats from the mining mafia. He was killed just a day after a woman was killed in a crossfire between the UP police who were there to nab a mining mafia criminal Jafar, and locals at a village in Kashipur. It has been four days but the police are yet to make any major development in the case so far.

Some robbers also robbed the house of minister Prem Chand Aggrawal’s cousin at Doiwala while holding three women hostages in broad daylight on Saturday. Besides this, some unknown men also fired at and injured two police constables at Laksar in Haridwar district on Sunday evening. Considering such serious crimes within a week in these three districts, the DGP has given the ultimatum to the officials concerned to make arrests on the cases or be ready to be removed from their respective positions.
