Uttarakhand Special Task Force (STF) nabbed a 22-year-old young man from Kolkata for allegedly duping a retired doctor of Nainital of Rs 10.5 lakh online by posing as a treasury officer. He has allegedly conned several people in other states too.

The senior superintendent of police of STF, Ayush Agrawal said that a Haldwani resident Harish Lal, a retired doctor, filed a complaint in the cyber crime police station on October 26, 2022 against an unknown caller who duped him of Rs 10.5 lakh in the name of the payment of pension dues. He said that it was revealed during the investigation that the amount duped by the cyber criminal was being withdrawn through ATMs in Bihar and Kolkata. “Teams were immediately sent to Bihar and Kolkata to nab the accused. The teams stayed there for 15 days to conduct investigation by analysing CCTV footage installed in various ATM booths and raiding all possible locations to nab the accused. The team finally nabbed the accused Abhsihek Shaw (22) from his flat in Kolkata. The team also recovered two mobile phones, 16 SIM cards and six debit cards from the flat.

The STF has brought him to Dehradun after getting his transit remand,” said Agrawal. He said, “The accused, a resident of Bihar, has also been to jail before in Kolkata. According to him, he was being quite careful in conducting his cyber crimes after getting back from jail and was sure authorities would not be able to arrest him anytime soon.” The SSP said that there is a strong possibility of the accused being involved in more such cyber crimes across the country and the STF is contacting the police of other states to gather more details against him.
