Caste census vital for economic & social justice: Harish Rawat

 Former chief minister and senior Congress leader Harish Rawat has said that the caste census is necessary for economic and social parity in the country. Interacting with the media at the Congress Bhawan here on Wednesday Rawat said that in the recent meeting of the Congress Working Committee (CWC) resolutions on the women’s reservation in the Lok Sabha and assemblies and the caste census was passed. He said the party will keep the issues of economic and social justice in focus in the parliamentary elections of 2024. Rawat said that the issues of women empowerment, farmers and downtrodden will figure prominently in the scheme of things of Congress party.

Rawat said that caste census is essential for the social justice in the country. He said that the Congress party is committed to providing 33 per cent reservation  to women in the Lok Sabha and state assemblies. The former CM  said that the BJP government at the centre is on a spree of selling the Public Sector Undertaking (PSU) to the private players. He said that the Congress government will find ways to roll back the process of sale of the PSUs. The focus of the Congress party will be on increasing the income of the poor and middle income groups and the emphasis will be on the employment generation.

 He said that the Congress government will remove the limit of 50 per cent on reservation and will add new social groups in the ambit of reservations.

The former CM said that the State government has proved to be a failure on all fronts. He said that the administration has failed to deal with the menace of dengue in the State.
