Cabinet approves reservation for statehood activists in Govt jobs bill

In a major decision the Uttarakhand government has decided to provide 10 per cent horizontal reservation to statehood activists and their dependents in the State government jobs. A decision in this regard was taken in the meeting of the State cabinet held on Friday. In the cabinet it was decided that the 10 per cent reservation (one time) for statehood activists and their dependents bill-2023 in the upcoming session of the State assembly. It is pertinent to mention here that the statehood activists were deprived of the benefit of reservation for the last 10 years due to an order of the High Court.

 There was no formal briefing of the cabinet decisions since the monsoon session of the State Assembly has been convened. However it is learnt that the cabinet approved the proposal to grant child adoption leave for the State government employees (males) who are single.  This leave will be for a period of 180 days during the entire service period and will be given to single parent male employees on adoption of a child. The cabinet also gave its nod to the presentation of a supplementary budget of Rs 11,000 crore in the Monsoon session of the State Assembly. In another decision the cabinet approved the proposal to table the Uttarakhand (combined Prantiya Rakshak Dal act 1948) regularisation of leaves bill in the upcoming session of assembly. In its meeting the State cabinet also approved the proposal to grant the benefit of child care leave to the contractual workers and employees appointed by outsource agencies.

 The cabinet also gave its nod to table a bill in which a provision to annul 199 laws and regulations has been made. These laws have become redundant and include 183 such provisions made during the time when the State was part of Uttar Pradesh. The state cabinet also gave its approval to the plan to revise the fees levied on the proposal to increase the capacity of the hydropower projects located in the State. The state will now charge a fee of Rs one lakh for the purpose which will be equivalent to the neighbouring Himachal Pradesh.
