Transport department to issue green cards after cabinet’s decision

Wednesday, 23 June 2021 | PNS | Dehradun

The Uttarakhand Transport Department is preparing to commence the online application process to issue green cards to the commercial drivers for Char Dham Yatra. The department has already prepared new software to provide this online service and even successfully completed the trial run about two months ago. Earlier, the department had planned to start the application process by the end of April but it was postponed after the postponement of Char Dham Yatra due to the huge surge in Covid-19 positive cases.

Though the State Government has allowed Char Dham Yatra for locals of three districts which are Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag and Chamoli from July 1 and for others in the State from July 11, the transport department has not commenced the application process for green cards. Responding to this, Transport secretary Ranjit Kumar Sinha said that the department is preparing to start the online application system for green cards but its starting date is not fixed. He informed that once the cabinet here decides that Char Dham Yatra would commence properly and make everything clear regarding the matter, the department would only then start the online application process to issue green cards. Officials also informed that the State Government would possibly take the final decision in the matter of Char Dham Yatra by the end of this week.

It is pertinent to mention here that the commercial drivers of up to 10 seater vehicles will get auto-approval through the online application process for the green card after providing the required details and online fee submission. However, the drivers of commercial vehicles of more than 10 seats would have to bring their vehicle for the fitness test in the transport office to get the green card after applying online.
