The Bharatiya Janata Party has named its State president Mahendra Bhatt as its candidate from Uttarakhand for the biennial election to Rajya Sabha. Bhatt’s name is among the list of candidates for seven States released by the party on Sunday.

The BJP State media in-charge Manveer Singh Chauhan said that Bhatt is a party worker who has remained connected to the grassroots while undertaking various responsibilities accorded to him from time to time by the party leadership. Apart from various organisational responsibilities he was the MLA from Nandprayag from 2002 to 2007 and represented Badrinath in the Vidhan Sabha from 2017 to 2022. While working in various positions including his current position as the BJP State president, Bhatt played a role in expansion of the party organisation and strengthening the connection among the party workers. His amicable temperament, habit of listening to every party worker and his clean image have made him an inspiration for the party workers, Chauhan said.

The decision taken by the party’s central leadership to field him as its Rajya Sabha candidate once again shows that the BJP is a cadre based party which always accords preference to dedicated workers, the BJP State media in-charge added.
