Asset distribution; would not tolerate discrimination – Godiyal

The Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Ganesh Godiyal has said that the Congress party would not tolerate discrimination of Uttarakhand in the distribution of assets with Uttar Pradesh (UP) and would knock the doors of the court if the need arises. He said that the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has sacrificed the interests of the state and surrendered meekly before UP CM Yogi Adityanath in their recent meeting in Lucknow.

Godiyal made these comments while interacting with the media persons at the state headquarters of the Congress party here on Monday. Terming the recent statement of CM Dhami which he gave in response to the charges levelled by former CM Harish Rawat on the distribution of assets issue, Godiyal said that while Rawat put his views in a logical manner, the response of CM was illogical. He questioned – who gave right to CM Dhami to enter into an agreement with UP on distribution of assets? He reminded that when Dhami took over as the CM of the state he took a pledge to safeguard the interests of the people of Uttarakhand and also promised that he will never allow the interests of the state to suffer. Godiyal also questioned the basis on which CM Dhami agreed on getting Rs 200 Crore instead of Rs 700 Crore which the UP should have given. He claimed that the courts were about to give the ownership of Tehri dam to Uttarakhand but the BJP government has now decided to take back all the court cases. Godiyal said that the agreement reached with UP would not be acceptable to anyone who is a well wisher of the state.

The PCC President said that Congress wanted to register its protest on the issue with the governor but despite repeated attempts it has not got the time for a meeting.

Godiyal also questioned the soft stance taken by the state government for UP under which 20 Nali land was handed over to it in Badrinath Dham. He said that the state government has adopted a partisan attitude while allotting land to UP and ignoring others.
