In view of the soaring prices of tomato in Uttarakhand as elsewhere in the country, the secretary of the Dehradun-based Agricultural Produce Market Committee (APMC) Vijay Thapliyal held a meeting with the representatives of the wholesalers and the retailers and then it was decided that four counters would be opened from where tomato would be sold for Rs 50 to Rs 70 per kg. Speaking more on the matter, the mandi inspector Ajay Dabral said that the people can buy the vegetable from these four counters from 9 am to 12 pm daily. “The prices will be fixed depending on the quality of the tomatoes,” he said, adding that two kilograms would be sold to each buyer at a time at the reduced prices. It is learnt that tomatoes at reduced prices will be available from Niranjanpur vegetable market.

APMC office bearers further said that such counters would be opened in the mandi in Rishikesh and Roorkee too. The director general of Uttarakhand Agricultural Produce Marketing Board Ashish Bhatgai said that all the agricultural produce market committees across the State have been asked to open such cheap price counters for selling tomatoes at their own levels.
