Weather to change today- heavy rain & snowfall warning issued

The weather in the State is set to take a turn today with heavy snowfall and heavy rain warnings being issued for the mountainous districts. The State meteorological centre has forecast that light to moderate rain/snowfall is likely to occur at most places in the State on Monday. It has forecast that moderate snowfall is likely to occur at places situated at altitudes of 2,800 metres and above. The meteorological centre has also issued an orange warning (Alert) regarding the possibility of heavy to very heavy snowfall likely to occur at isolated places situated at altitudes of 3,500 metres and above in Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Bageshwar and Pithoragarh districts. Thunderstorms accompanied with lightning/hail are likely to occur at isolated places in the State. Further, a yellow warning (Watch) has also been issued regarding the possibility of heavy rain likely to occur at isolated places in Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Bageshwar and Pithoragarh districts on Monday.
The provisional State capital Dehradun is likely to witness a partly to generally cloudy sky. Further, light to moderate rain/thunderstorm accompanied with lightning/hail is likely to occur towards evening/night. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be about 20 degrees Celsius and 13 degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun today.
The State meteorological centre director Bikram Singh said that the rain and snowfall activity is expected to peak from the evening of February 19 to 20.
Meanwhile, the maximum and minimum temperatures recorded in various parts of the State on Sunday were 23.1 degrees Celsius and 10.8 degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun, 24.6 degrees Celsius and 7.9 degrees Celsius in Pantnagar, 17.5 degrees Celsius and 4.3 degrees Celsius in Mukteshwar and 15.2 degrees Celsius and 6.2 degrees Celsius in New Tehri.
