BRO to erect Bailey bridge across Dhauliganga to restore traffic movement
Traffic on the Joshimath-Niti highway which leads to the border area with China has been disrupted after a bridge collapsed on Sunday evening. According to sources, this has affected the movement of the residents of the border area villages and personnel of the armed forces in Chamoli district. A truck loaded with debris was crossing the motor bridge across the Dhauliganga river about one kilometre ahead of Malari when the bridge collapsed at about 6 PM on Sunday.
The collapse of the bridge has affected the traffic including that of Indo-Tibetan Border Police and the army towards the border area and that of the residents of the border area villages. The movement of the residents of Kailashpur, Mehargaon, Farkiya, Banpa, Gamshali and Niti villages in the border region has also been affected by the collapse of the bridge. The Border Roads Organisation commander Ankur Mahajan informed that a Bailey bridge will be erected soon across the Dhauliganga to restore the movement of traffic on the highway.
