Terrorists’ plan to target Srinagar Pulwama National Highway foiled

A Lashkar-e-Tayyeba (LeT) district commander, a foreign terrorist hailing from Pakistan and 3 other LeT ultras who were planning to target Srinagar-Pulwama National Highway were killed by a joint team of security forces in Hanjin Rajpora area of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district in Friday night encounter.

One Army personnel was martyred in the initial round of firing at the encounter site.

The operation in the area was launched late on Thursday soon after the security forces received a tip-off about the presence of a group of terrorists in the area.

Due to darkness the security forces could only maintain a tight cordon in the area during the night and resumed the operations with the first light.

Terming it a big success, Kashmir range Inspector General of Police Vijay Kumar said, “District commander of proscribed terror outfit LeT Nishaz Lone, alias Khitab, and one Pakistani terrorist were amongst 5 terrorists killed in the Pulwama encounter.”

Kumar said parents of Amir, a terror associate, were called to appeal to surrender but to no avail. All 5 LeT terrorists, including Pakistani terrorist Rehan, were killed. Arms, ammunition and some documents were recovered, he added.

After the encounter was over, hundreds of local villagers assembled at the encounter site and cleared the leftover debris as the house where these terrorists were hiding suffered huge damage.

According to Defence PRO, Hav Kashiray Bammanalli laid down his life in the line of duty in Op Hanjan, #Pulwama in fierce firefight with terrorists on Thursday.

It is after a long gap a group of five terrorists were gunned down by the security forces.

Official sources said a total number of 66 terrorists have been gunned down in different operations this year across Kashmir valley. The majority of these operations were conducted across South Kashmir districts.

Meanwhile, jawans of Baramulla police on Friday foiled an ex-filtration bid in Uri area by arresting four individuals on their way towards LoC for ex-filtration to PoK via Gowhallan Sector in Uri.

A police spokesman said, “Baramulla Police received specific information that three local youths were received by one Parvaiz Ahmad Hajam son of Gh Mohi-ud-din resident of Gohallan Uri (as a guide) in order to ex-filtrate them to PoK through Gowhallan sector.”

Acting swiftly upon the input, a special team headed by Junaid Wali SDPO Uri intercepted the group and arrested the said guide along with three local youths.

The arrested youths have been identified as Mohd Shafi Hajam son of Abdul Ahad Hajam, Reyaz Ahmad Bhat son of Manzoor Ahmad both residents of Sheeri Mirhar and Yasir Bhat son of Ghulam Mohd resident of Chatloora Sopore.

A case under relevant sections of law has been registered and further investigation into the matter is in progress.
