In latest news from Doon,   in reply to questions raised by the MLA Mahesh Jeena on the second day of the Budget session being held in Dehradun, the State tourism, culture and irrigation minister Satpal Maharaj said that the process of handing appointment letters to 342 candidates as gram panchayat development officers (GPDO) is in process.  He further said that there are 398 vacant posts of GPDOs and 342 candidates selected by Uttarakhand Subordinate Services Selection Commission were being provided with the appointment letters. Denying the charge that the shortage of GPDOs was affecting development in rural areas, Maharaj said that the development pace remained unaffected thanks to the effective operation of the e-Gram Swaraj portal.   Answering a question raised by the Congress MLA from Nanakmatta Gopal Singh Rana, the minister said that Nanakmatta Sahib has been selected for development as a religious place under Manaskhand Mission Phase II.  Asked about Nanak Sagar dam being developed as a tourism centre, Maharaj said that Rs 30 lakh had been proposed to promote water sports activities in the dam under the District Plan 2024-25.
