The 113th four-day Kisan Mela organised at Govind Ballabh Pant University of Agriculture and Technology (GBPUAT) in Pantnagar concluded on Wednesday. The vice chancellor of the university Manmohan Singh Chauhan was the chief guest of the ceremony who described Kisan Mela as an important link between scientists and farmers through which all technologies are made available to farmers.

The gathering of scientists and farmers at one place gives the latter the platform to present their issues which are solved easily through scientific means. He said that several farmers participated in the Kisan Mela. He said that small farmers must also register themselves at the Krishi Vigyan Kendras of their respective areas to get timely information about farming techniques.

The director of Extension Education, Anil Kumar Sharma said that the university has sold seeds, plants and books of agriculture literature worth Rs 18 lakh in this fair. Several firms, universities and other government institutions have set up nearly 370 stalls in the fair which was visited by about 9,000 farmers, added Sharma. In the closing ceremony, apart from awarding prizes to the winners of various competitions held during the last four days, the selected stalls displayed in the fair were awarded too.
