Youths and women enter Panchayat contest in large numbers

A considerable number of youths and women entering the three-tier Panchayat election as candidates has created an atmosphere of enthusiasm in the Dhari block of Nainital district. The enthusiasm among the youths regarding the Panchayat elections points towards a shift in trends with the younger generation now wanting to facilitate development instead of relying on others for the same.
A large number of women and youths filed their nomination for various posts in the three-tier Panchayat polls. Some of these are entering politics for the first time while some have entered the contest to change the condition of their village for the better. Parbada village resident Nirmala Bisht (28) is contesting the election for the first time for the post of Gram Panchayat member. She said that if elected, she will focus on optimising the use of solar power while also focusing on basic infrastructural development in the village.
Similarly, Vikram Singh (25) of Kaul village is also contesting the election for the post of Gram Panchayat member. Having completed BCom, he said that he has taken the first step into politics with the aim of ensuring new development works in his village.
Guddu Nayal (30) who was elected unopposed from Sasbani village as block Panchayat member, said that his aim is to facilitate the desired development works in all the villages in his block, ensure completion of incomplete works and provide better facilities to the residents. The youths should take the lead in governance in the villages, he said.
Mangher Gram Pradhan candidate Kamal (32), who used to work in a restaurant earlier, said that he left his job and decided to enter politics considering the lack of development in the village. If elected, he will focus on roads, water supply, toilets, online facilities and ensuring that all eligible citizens benefit from government schemes.
In Devnagar, Chandra Tiwari (27) is contesting for the post of Gram Panchayat member. She said that if given the chance, she will focus on roads, electricity and water supply and beautification works in the village.
Guniyalekh Gram Pradhan candidate Jeevan Belwal said that he wants to work for the public and ensure they benefit from government schemes. If elected, his special focus will be resolving the problems faced by aged people.
