Youngsters should remain updated in today’s era of innovation & technology: Governor

Governor lieutenant general (retd) Gurmit Singh said that in today’s era of technology, innovation and global competition, the youngsters should remain updated and prepared to meet new challenges. He was addressing the ninth convocation of the DIT University on Saturday. He said that the true purpose of education is not merely the acquisition of knowledge but development of character, strength in thoughts and sensitivity in behaviour. Singh praised the University for making significant contributions in modern fields like engineering, pharmacy, architecture, artificial intelligence, design, healthcare, forensic science and environmental science.
The governor said that success should not be measured solely by position, salary or prestige, but by how a person utilizes knowledge and abilities for the benefit of society and the nation. Delivering a clear message on the issue of drug addiction, the governor stated that addiction destroys the energy, health and future of youth. He urged young people to stay away from drugs, move forward with healthy bodies and strong thoughts and become leaders of the “Drug-Free Uttarakhand” campaign.
He said that youth should not only seek jobs but also become job creators, so that Uttarakhand can become an important part of a developed India. Referring to artificial intelligence, the governor said that AI is transforming every sector today, including education, health, transportation, administration, and industry. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India is working on the development of human-centred, ethical and transparent AI. He stated that the investment of over Rs 10,000 crore under the “India AI Mission” is a significant step toward strengthening the digital capabilities of the future.
University president Anuj Agarwal, principal advisor N Ravishankar and vice chancellor Raghurama were also present on the occasion.
