World’s next big tech will emerge from India: Lok Sabha speaker

Lok Sabha speaker Om Birla said that the next big tech will emerge from India. Speaking as the chief guest at the 175th foundation day of Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee on Friday, he said that the Indian youth had proved that the nation is moving towards self-reliance with the help of science and technology. He said that today India is known all over the world as the hub of startups, which are at the forefront of solving global challenges and are taking India’s economy forward. Expressing confidence in the abilities of Indian youth, Birla said that the next big tech will emerge from India.

Describing IITs as the nation’s premier institute in the field of technology, Birla said that the research and innovations at IITs have given a new direction to the country in areas ranging from climate, environment, medicine, to education, communication, and roads. Mentioning India’s ancient democratic legacy, he said that India’s democracy and diversity are the strength of the nation. Speaking about the progress made by the nation in the last seven decades, the Lok Sabha speaker said that Indian scientists, doctors, businessmen and youth are establishing India’s identity in the entire world.

Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision, Birla said that India’s youth will contribute immensely towards fulfilling the dream of a developed India in 2047. He further said that today even at the global level, Indian youth are leading the way and are contributing towards solving the world’s most complex problems through innovation, new technology and research.

A commemorative stamp was also released to mark the occasion. The Department of Posts secretary Vineet Pandey, IIT Roorkee board of governors chairman BVR Mohan Reddy and the institute director professor KK Pant also expressed their views on the occasion.
