Tuesday, 26 June 2018 | PNS | Dehradun– An awareness programme was held in the Government Doon Medical College GDMC hospital on the occasion of ‘ World Vitiligo Day’ on Monday. The programme was organised by the Department of Dermatology of the hospital. A human chain was also formed on the occasion to mark the day. The principal of Govt Doon Medical College, Dr P B Gupta said that the department of dermatology has IPD facility and patients are being managed with inter-departmental collaboration. The head of the department of Ophthalmology, Dr Sushil Ojha said that Vitiligo can involve eye lashes and lid margin if progressed from extremities. Dr Naziya Khatun explained the nature and course of disease and said that it is non-contagious and can be effectively managed with proper treatment. The earlier the treatment the better are the results, he said. Faculty members, nursing staff, students and over 50 patients who were getting treated for the disease along with their attendants participated in the event. The objective of the camp was to break various myths regarding Vitiligo and the social stigma being attached to the patients suffering from the disease.
