Many women in Dehradun have shared varied views regarding the recent court ruling in the case of Ankita Bhandari’s murder. The additional district and session judge, Reena Negi, at Kotdwar in Pauri district has recently sentenced all three individuals to life imprisonment in the murder case.
Local resident Vandana stated that she respects the court’s decision to impose life sentences on the murderers of Ankita Bhandari. However, she feels only partially satisfied with this outcome. She believes that life imprisonment is insufficient in this case; these individuals deserve the death penalty, which would not only ensure punishment but also send a strong warning to anyone who might consider committing such a crime, she said.
Another local woman, Babita, expressed her dissatisfaction with the recent verdict in the Ankita Bhandari case, arguing that those responsible should face the death penalty. She opined that the accused should experience the same suffering they inflicted on Ankita three years ago.
While many women expressed partial satisfaction with the decision, others were pleased with the court’s ruling and praised the outcome of the case. Regarding this, Mahima expressed happiness regarding the verdict, stating that while she acknowledged the life imprisonment is a commendable alternative to the death penalty, it allows the three accused to endure daily suffering and recognise the gravity of their actions. In her view, a death sentence would only punish them once, whereas life imprisonment would make them suffer from remorse every day.
