Women entrepreneurs connected with Tejasvani Business Association (TBH) are providing Covid infected people and their families with home-cooked meals amid the pandemic in Dehradun. This initiative is being undertaken by 23 ladies who are living in different parts of the city. The women themselves provide food to affected families in the areas convenient to them. These women deliver home-cooked meals comprising pulses, vegetables, rice and chapati for proper nutrition to the families in need.

Along with that breakfast is being provided at the Coronation hospital and fifty packs of boiled eggs and khichdi and Poha on alternate days are being given to patients and frontline workers daily.

All these volunteers are women entrepreneurs in the business association but due to pandemic when most routine activities are shut down they all are home. While at home, they are contributing by providing home-cooked meals for free to families from small to big joint families.

Priya Gulati, the founder of TBA said, “We started this initiative since the day when the Covid curfew was imposed and now iIt’s been more than 20 days for us. I can’t be precise about the number of meals we have delivered because it depends on the demand but on average we deliver around 100 meals to families daily.”

Asked about the origin of the idea of delivering the home-cooked meals to families she said, “When one of my friends and her family came back from the hospital after being treated for Covid-19 they were all very weak and asked me if I could arrange home-cooked meals from somewhere for them. Then I realised how many more families like them will be in need of home cooked food. We then started this initiative and initially, we were only six women providing this service at six different places and now gradually our number has increased to 23 who are covering the entire Dehradun city. I would especially like to mention Rashmi Tripathi who is helping us in covering all the orders of Suddhowala.”

Many came to help this initiative like Punjabi Mahasabha is helping them with oxygen cylinders and medicine kits to the patients in need. ASK trust is also giving supporting by providing dry ration and another trust Amayaa is also providing them with dry ration and PPE kits to distribute.
