The decapitated body of a woman was found six months after she was allegedly murdered by her Muslim partner with whom she was in a live-in relationship. The Haryana police with the cooperation of the Khatima police found the decomposed remains of the woman on Wednesday based on the information provided by the accused man.

According to official sources, Mushtaq Ahmed (25) was staying with Pooja Vishwas (32) in a live-in relationship.  The accused is a resident of Sitarganj while Vishwas was a native of Nanakmatta area. She used to work earlier at a spa centre in Haryana with her sister and had returned to Uttarakhand some time ago. No police complaint had been lodged by the police in Sitarganj after she went missing so her sister lodged a report with the Haryana police.

The Haryana police questioned the suspect and finally managed to discover the decomposed remains of the woman in the Khatima area. According to sources, Ahmed met Vishwas while travelling on the bus from Rudrapur to Haryana. The two got romantically involved and soon entered into a live-in relationship, staying in Gurugram. The accused was a cab driver in Haryana. He reportedly came to Sitarganj and married another woman in November 2024. When Vishwas came to know about this, she reached his home and opposed his marriage. Within a few days of the confrontation, he allegedly strangled her, chopped off her head and threw it in the nearby canal and wrapped the body in a blanket before dumping it.

The victim’s younger sister talked to her family after the victim remained out of contact for many days after which they approached the local police who reportedly did not lodge a missing person’s report.
