In latest news from Uttarakhand, a widow was arrested by Nandanagar police on the charge of burying her newborn in a heap of cow dung. Police informed that the widow’s husband had died a few years ago, leaving behind three children for her to take care of. Police further said that some of her neighbours had grown suspicious of the widow’s movements and informed them.
During interrogation, the widow confessed the crime and directed police to the place where she had buried the newborn. Police recovered the baby’s body. They questioned the widow on who had fathered the baby but she refused to disclose, informed the Nanda Nagar police station in-charge, Narendra Singh Rawat, adding that the baby’s body had been sent to Gopeshwar district hospital for post-mortem.
After the autopsy was over, there was no one to receive and cremate it. Later, two councillors stepped forward and cremation was done with their cooperation.
