Why no Bharat Ratna to a Sanyasi yet: Ramdev

Welcoming the move taken by Government of India to confer Bharat Ratna to former President Pranab Mukherjee and others, Yoga Guru Swami Ramdev has said that Mukherjee is a senior political leader and honouring him with Bharat Ratna is justified. He also appreciated the centre’s decision to give the highest civilian award to famous singer Bhupen Hazarika and Nanaji Deshmukh. But at the same time he said it was absurd that the government never found a Sanyasi in the entire span of 70 years since Independence, who could be given Bharat Ratna award. He said Swami Vivekanand, Swami Dayanand Saraswati and Swami Shraddhanand made great efforts in building the nation. And, Swami Shiv KumarMahaharaj in the present times had contributed a lot in building the nation. Ramdev has appealed to the government to give Bharat Ratna to a Sanyasi next year. When asked about his opinion on Priyanka Gandhi becoming general secretary of the Congress party he reaffirmed his resolution to remain neutral in politics. He said he had no connection with any party for forthcoming Lok Sabha polls. He said whichever party formed the government must work for nation building. In a response to the question by media persons, he said whether one is Hindu or Muslim, care must be taken to keep population under control and never bring up more than two children. After China, India was leading in population among nations. Any person who brings forth more than two children must not get ticket to Vidhan Sabha or Lok Sabha polls and become a minister, he said. He lamented that even after 70 years of independence, the country has not been able to achieve independence in the field of education. He said he had met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and he had assured him of formation of Vedic Education Board. He said he was hopeful of the same. Monday, 28 January 2019 | PNS | Haridwar
