1 man, 400 goats dead after being struck by lightning

Rains caused considerable disruption and some damage in various parts of the State on Sunday. The Kedarnath pilgrimage had to be halted till further orders due to heavy rain in Rudraprayag district. Pilgrims were made to stop at Sonprayag while others were held at various halts due to waterfalls in spate on the bridle path to the shrine.

In the Purola area of Uttarkashi, one person died and three were injured by lightning. The injured were taken to the Purola community health centre from where they were referred to a higher centre in Dehradun. The incident took place in Kandiyal village when four persons working in the field were struck by lightning. Of the four injured, Abhishek (26) died during treatment.

In the Kapkot Tehsil of Bageshwar district, 400 goats died after being struck by lightning. District disaster management officer Shikha Suyal said that the goats were struck by lightning at Jhuni Pankhutop. Personnel of Animal Husbandry and Revenue departments reached the spot and inspected the loss. The Kapkot MLA Suresh Gadhia instructed the officials to ensure swift payment of compensation to the shepherds who lost their goats.
