With the start of the Char Dham Yatra, the water supply system installed by Uttarakhand Jal Sansthan (UJS) for the pilgrims has begun functioning effectively, the officias claimed. The UJS secretary (Administration), Satendra Kumar Gupta stated that they have made all necessary preparations for providing water along the Yatra circuit.
He informed that a total of 211 Tank-type Stand Post (TTSP) water structures have been set up along the Yatra route, of which 207 are now operational. The remaining TTSPs are expected to commence operation with the onset of the Hemkund Yatra. Additionally, 1,062 hand pumps have also been installed and are functioning along the route.
In addition to this, 390 Pillar-Type Stand Posts (PTSP) and 57 water ATMs have been established, with 341 PTSPs and 53 water ATMs already operational; the rest will become functional during the Hemkund Yatra. Gupta also informed that 61 Charia for horses and other animals have been installed, with 49 currently in operation.
Gupta further said that control rooms have been established along the Yatra route to address any water-related issues. Nodal officers have been deployed to resolve any water problems that may arise during the pilgrimage. For convenience, a toll-free number has been set up district-wise along the Yatra route. Additionally, pilgrims can call the state-level toll-free number 18001804100 or 1916 for any complaints or assistance.
He also informed that 24 hot water tanks for pilgrims and horses have been installed.
It will be recalled that earlier, the general manager of the Sansthan, DK Singh, stated that teams have been formed, with two to three members assigned to each station along the Yatra route. These teams are responsible for addressing reports of any damage or disruptions to the water supply at any location, ensuring that repairs are completed within half an hour.
Additionally, officials have been instructed that no public toilet should be left without a water supply, and any failure to comply will result in stringent action. This directive aims to enhance the accessibility of public toilets for women.
