Warning- thunderstorms with intense rain spells, hail & squalls likely in State today

The light rain and hail being experienced in various parts of the State during the past couple of days has brought some relief from the heat. Similar weather is expected on Sunday with the State Meteorological Centre issuing a warning regarding the possibility of thunderstorms accompanied with lightning/hail/intense spells of rain/squall (50-60 kmph gusting up to 70 kmph) likely to occur at isolated places in Dehradun, Pauri, Nainital and Champawat districts. Thunderstorms accompanied with lightning/squall (50-60 kmph gusting up to 70 kmph) are likely to occur at isolated places in Haridwar and Udham Singh Nagar districts while thunderstorms accompanied with lightning/hail/gusty wind (40-50 kmph) are likely to occur at isolated places in the remaining districts of the State. Apart from this, light to moderate rain is likely to occur at many places in the mountain districts and at a few places in the plain districts of the State today.
The provisional State capital Dehradun is forecast to witness a partly cloudy sky. One or two spells of light to moderate rain/thunderstorms accompanied with lightning/gusty wind (40-50 kmph) are likely to occur here. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be around 32 degrees Celsius and 21 degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun today.
Meanwhile, Dehradun and other various parts of the State witness below normal temperatures due to the recent change in weather. The maximum and minimum temperatures recorded on Sunday were 33.6 degrees Celsius and 19.1 degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun, 34.8 degrees Celsius and 20.5 degrees Celsius in Pantnagar, 20.6 degrees Celsius and 10.9 degrees Celsius in Mukteshwar and 24.5 degrees Celsius and 12.2 degrees Celsius in New Tehri. Light rain was also reported in various places with nine millimetres in Purola, three millimetres each in Rudraprayag and Bharsar, two millimetres in Pithoragarh and 1.5 millimetres in Chamoli.
