Vipin Sanghi appointed Uttarakhand Chief Justice

Delhi high court judge Vipin Sanghi has been appointed as the chief justice of Uttarakhand high court. With the President approving the Supreme Court collegium’s recommendation, the Ministry of Law and Justice has issued a gazette notification regarding the appointment. 

Sanghi is among the five judges whose elevation as chief justices of various high courts has been recommended by the SC collegiums on May 17. He was born in 1961 in Nagpur and shifted along with his family to Delhi in 1965. He completed his schooling from Delhi and earned a BSc with Mathematics honours from Delhi University in 1983 after which he did his LLB from the Law Faculty, Campus Law Centre in Delhi University. His grandfather, late VK Sanghi and father, late GL Sanghi were also senior advocates. He had initially worked in the office of senior advocate Mukul Rohatgi and was appointed as a central government panel advocate in the Supreme Court.

He was designated as senior advocate by Delhi high court in December 2005 and was appointed as additional judge of the Delhi HC in May 2006 and later confirmed as a judge in February 2008.
