Vigilance action: District supply officer caught while accepting Rs 50 K bribe

In a major action, the Vigilance team from Dehradun arrested the Haridwar district supply officer Shyam Arya and his assistant Gaurav Sharma in Haridwar after they were caught red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 50,000. Things happened in the district supply office premises.

According to sources privy to the details, the district supply officer demanded a bribe of Rs 50,000 from a ration dealer in exchange for some work. Annoyed by this demand, the ration dealer lodged a complaint with the Vigilance department. After the allegations were found to hold truth in the confidential investigation into the complaint, the Vigilance team laid a trap for the accused officer.

Acting on the strategy, the Vigilance team raided the district supply office and arrested the district supply officer and his assistant while the officer was accepting the bribe through his assistant. The team recovered the entire bribe amount from the spot.

Subsequently, the Vigilance team filed a case against both the accused under the Prevention of Corruption Act and initiated further investigation to get into the bottom of things.
