Various aspects of disaster management discussed in workshop

Various aspects of disaster mitigation and management were discussed at a workshop organised by the Uttarakhand State Disaster Management Authority to mark the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction here on Wednesday.

Speaking in the workshop on the subjet of a disaster resilient Uttarakhand, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) member Rajendra Singh informed the gathering about decisions being taken for disaster management. He also stressed on the importance of community participation in framing of policies.

Noted activist Anil Prakash Joshi spoke of special steps which need to be taken in Uttarakhand considering the specific conditions here for disaster management policy framing. Information regarding disaster management should be spread among the public through educational institutions, he added.

Earlier, Disaster Management additional secretary Anand Srivastav informed the gathering about the work being done in the field by the State government and USDMA. The USDMA also staged an exhibition on publicity material and items related to State Disaster Relief Force search and rescue on the occasion. Experts from various scientific and other institutions also shared their experiences with the participants in the workshop.
