The Vanbhulpura railway land encroachment case is now likely to be taken up for hearing in the Supreme Court on February 3, 2026. The hearing on the case has already been deferred twice this month.
According to the Supreme Court website, the hearing on this case is likely to be listed for hearing on February 3. Earlier, it was likely to have been listed on December 16 this year for hearing. According to sources, the computer generated date would have taken factors like the winter vacation of the court into account before reaching the tentative date of hearing.
The matter was earlier slated to be heard on December 6 but was deferred to December 10. On the second date, it was listed at serial number 15. Lengthy debates on other matters prevented this matter from coming up for hearing on the said date.
It should be mentioned here that the Vanbhulpura case has resulted in uncertainty in a part of Haldwani in Nainital district for a long time. The delay in hearing has further lengthened the wait of the local residents, administration and others concerned. The matter first grabbed national headlines in 2023.
According to the Railways, 29 acres of its land in the area has been encroached upon by 4,365 families. The Uttarakhand High Court had directed the removal of the encroachments in December 2023, after which the affected persons had approached the Supreme Court which had granted a stay on the demolitions.
