Uttarakhand to become drone manufacturing & defence production hub: Dhami

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Wednesday said the State government is working on a plan to establish Uttarakhand as a hub for defence production and drone manufacturing. Speaking at the Surya Drone Tech -2025 exhibition held at Jaswant Ground in Dehradun Cantonment, Dhami said that the government is encouraging youth to pursue innovation and technology-based careers, especially in the defence and drone sectors.
He stated that drone technology is proving to be useful for disaster relief operations in Uttarakhand due to the State’s geographical conditions. He said the government is focusing on training the youth in drone technology and promoting its use for both defence and civilian purposes. This two-day exhibition was organised by the Central Command of the Indian Army in collaboration with the Society of Indian Defence Manufacturers (SIDM). It showcases drone technologies developed to meet military requirements under the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative.
Dhami said the State’s new industrial policies prioritise defence production and technology-driven industries. He said that platforms like Surya Drone Tech 2025 are helping promote innovation and support the State’s goal of becoming a drone manufacturing hub. He stated that advancements in drone technology are supporting sectors such as disaster management, agriculture and education.
Dhami also said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the government is encouraging innovation in defence and drone technology and Uttarakhand is contributing to this effort through focused initiatives and industrial support. Members of the Indian Army’s Central Command, SIDM representatives, drone experts, startups, MSMEs, NCC cadets and students attended the event.
