The Uttarakhand government has approved the inclusion of 1,983 revenue villages under regular police jurisdiction. The decision, taken in accordance with the directions of the High Court and previous cabinet resolutions, is aimed at improving law enforcement across the State’s rural and border regions. Until now, many of these revenue villages were managed under the revenue police system, where administrative officers handled law and order matters in areas without regular police stations.

This system, though functional for decades, often faced challenges such as delayed investigation, limited resources and lack of modern policing support. With this decision, the State government seeks to bridge those gaps and ensure uniform policing standards across Uttarakhand. Once the transition is implemented, regular police personnel will be deployed in these villages, bringing them under the same jurisdictional framework as other urban and semi-urban areas. The move is expected to lead to faster response during emergencies, better crime prevention, and more transparent handling of complaints and investigations. It will also help ensure that residents of remote and hilly regions have direct access to the justice system and timely law enforcement support.

The chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said that the decision will make Uttarakhand’s policing system stronger and more accountable. He stated that extending regular police jurisdiction to all remaining revenue villages marks a major governance reform aimed at improving public safety. According to him, this step will enhance the sense of security among citizens and increase public confidence in the law enforcement system.

He said that the inclusion of these 1,983 revenue villages represents a significant administrative shift for the State. It reflects the government’s focus on uniform policing, improved coordination and effective maintenance of peace and order across Uttarakhand’s diverse geographical areas.
