UTDB to promote ancient temples of U’khand

The Uttarakhand Tourism Development Board (UTDB) will promote and develop the ancient temples in Uttarakhand from the tourism perspective. A virtual meeting in this regard was chaired by the Tourism and Culture minister Satpal Maharaj with the officials on Wednesday. District Tourism Development Officers (DTDO) from 13 districts attended the meeting online and gave details of ancient temples in their respective areas.
Sharing his views on promoting the famous stories of Uttarakhand, Maharaj said, “I have requested the Governor of Maharashtra, Bhagat Singh Koshyari, to arrange a meeting with famous film producers and directors in the near future. We have much-talked stories in Uttarakhand of famous personalities such as Nain Singh Rawat, Ajit Doval, Tharu and Boxa communities and Raja Malusai which can be developed as film stories.”

A total of 24 ancient Shiva temples namely Shiv Kapileshwar temple, Jageshwar temple in Almora, Patal Bhumi in Pithoragarh, Baijnath and Bagnath in Bageshwar, Kanteshwar temple in Champawat, Bhimeshwar temple in Nainital, Moteshwar Mahadev in Udham Singh Nagar, Koteshwar Mahadev in Tehri, Rudraprayag along with Panch Kedar, Kashi Vishwanath in Uttarkashi, Daksha Prajapati temple in Haridwar, Rudranath temple and Kalpeshwar temple in Chamoli, Kyankaleshwar in Pauri, Ekeshwar and Lakhamandal in Dehradun were identified.

A number of ancient Vishnu temples were also identified along with Nag Devta temples in various parts of the state.  For Navgrah circuit, the Manila Devi and Katar temple in Almora, Aditya Sun Temple in Ramak Champawat, Guru Brihaspati temple in Nainital, Shani temple in Uttarkashi Kharsali and Rahu temple located in Pauri along with other shrines in various parts were also identified during the meeting. Maharaj directed officials to also identify the Sikh shrines, Siddh Peeths and Buddhist sites to broaden the prospect of tourism in the state.

Tourism secretary Dilip Jawalkar gave directions to all the DTDOs to provide details about the ancient temples of their respective areas.
