The Uttarakhand Swabhiman Morcha (USM) president, Bobby Panwar alleged that a land in the tribal area in Kalsi under Jaunsar Bawar region had been purchased by a Kashmir resident, Gulam Ali in cahoots with some self-seeking politicians and corrupt officials. Gulam Ali is a former employee of Jammu and Kashmir police. Panwar also shared two videos which allegedly surfaced in Pakistan, purportedly showing some people claiming that the land in Haripur Kalsi belonged to their ancestors. “This has made the matter all the more serious,” he commented.
Addressing a press conference at the Press Club here on Wednesday, Pawar said that Gulam Ali had bought ten bigha land with fake documents. “We raised this matter earlier in February 2024, but after some initial action, the issue was allowed to fizzle out,” he said.
Continuing with his allegation, he said that fake certificates are being made with impunity in Vikasnagar and Kalsi tehsils. “People are losing faith in the system which is breeding corruption,” he said.
“While the State government incessantly talks about the dangers lurking in demographic changes the ground situation is different. Such activities-detrimental to the State’s demographic security- are going on in full swing in connivance with some corrupt officers,” he said.
He demanded immediate action and removal of such officers. “If the government chooses to sit on this sensitive issue the people will be forced to launch a full-blown agitation,” Panwar said.
