Use of BIS-certified products will make the nation self-reliant: Governor

The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) Dehradun observed World Standards Day 2025 at the Himalayan Cultural Centre in Dehradun on Tuesday. The theme for this year was Shared Vision for a Better World-Standards for Sustainable Development Goals.
Governor lieutenant general (retd) Gurmit Singh said that collective efforts are needed in line with sustainable development goals. He urged people to promote the use of indigenous and BIS-certified products, stating that such practices will make the country self-reliant. Singh appreciated the initiatives of BIS in promoting quality awareness and administered the quality pledge to the participants.
He added that every individual should make quality the foundation of their decisions and turn it into a habit. Swami Chidanand Saraswati also praised BIS for its work in developing indigenous standards and said that self-regulation, self-reliance and self-confidence are essential for national growth.
He encouraged BIS to further promote indigenous products and integrate quality control into everyday life. Rajya Sabha MP Naresh Bansal and cabinet minister Ganesh Joshi were also present at the event.
BIS Dehradun head and director Saurabh Tiwari also shared details of BIS’s recent initiatives, including capacity-building programmes with State departments, sensitisation workshops, jeweller awareness campaigns and innovations in standardisation. More than 50 exhibition stalls displayed BIS-certified products, scientific models, startup innovations and projects by Standard Club students and over 1,500 participants attended the event.
