US ambassador reviews developmental works in hospitals

During his visit to the holy city, US ambassador to India Kenneth I Juster visited district hospital and mela hospital on Thursday and reviewed the projects being run with the assistance of WHO and United States. Two projects ‘Samman’ and ‘LaQshya’ are being run in the two hospitals with the assistance of US. Both the welfare programmes are being executed for improving the health of expecting mothers.

Juster met the ANM and ASHA workers along with the medical staff of the hospital. He took a review meeting with the officials to know about the progress of the projects. Notably ‘LaQshya’ programme of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare was launched over a year ago across the country to ensure proper implementation of existing labour room protocols. The objective was to reduce maternal and newborn mortality by strengthening the labour room and operation theatre.

Under this initiative delivery related facilities, maternal care and availability of birth companion during delivery are some of the focused areas which the hospitals are asked to follow.

Speaking to the Pioneer, CMO of the district hospital Dr Prem Lal said, “The US ambassador met our ASHA workers and asked them about community based Samman and LaQshya projects. He asked whether the ASHA workers were holding weekly meetings of expecting mothers and getting their quality examination done. He was very much satisfied after the review meet.”

When asked about LaQshya project, the CMO said that for whatever equipment is required by the hospital to enhance the maternal care and deliver, requests are sent to national health mission. He said that the projects were running smoothly.
