UPCL achieves rooftop solar plant installation  target before time

The Uttarakhand Power Corporation Limited (UPCL) has claimed to have achieved the target set for March 2027 for installation of solar rooftop plants in August 2025 itself.

The managing director of the UPCL, AK Yadav said that the Union Ministry of Power had given a target of installation of 40,000 rooftop solar power plants till March 2027 under Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Yojana to Uttarakhand. 

He said that the UPCL has achieved the target one and half years before the stipulated time period.

Yadav said that more than 42,000 rooftop solar plants have been installed in the State with a total production capacity of 156 megawatt. He said that the achievement puts Uttarakhand in the league of the leading states in the area of green energy production and self-sustainability in the power sector. 

He said that the rooftop solar power plants are proving beneficial for the consumers by reducing the electricity bill and promoting the production of clean and green energy. The solar power plants are helping the electricity distribution system in becoming more dependable and effective

The UPCL MD further added that the corporation will continue its effort of achieving the global target of Net-Zero emission and making available the green energy by installing more and more solar power plants in the State.

Pertinently the Uttarakhand government was providing a subsidy of  Rs 17,000 per KW for installation of a roof top solar plant till March this year. Thus for installing a solar plant of three KW capacity the State government provided a subsidy of Rs 51,000. This subsidy which was in addition to the central subsidy was instrumental in a quantum jump in the number of applications for the project.
