U’khand committed to making its police modern & smart: CM

Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami handed over appointment letters to the successful candidates of the constable and firemen examination in a ceremony held at police lines here on Tuesday. The CM personally handed over the letters of appointment to 55 candidates in the programme. The Uttarakhand police has recruited 1,425 constables and firemen in its ranks. Speaking on the occasion, the CM said that a new recruitment drive will soon start to fill 1,550 vacant posts of constables in the police.

Congratulating the successful candidates, the CM said that constables are the primary unit of the police force which acts as the foundation of the department. He expressed confidence that the newly appointed constables would discharge their duties with dedication, hard work and honesty. Dhami said that the State government is committed to make Uttarakhand Police modern and smart as per the vision of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Appreciating the police force, the CM said that it has created a special place for itself with friendliness, service and security. He said that the State is visited by pilgrims whose number is five times the population of the State but the police personnel are discharging their duties with utmost alertness and dedication.

The CM said that the State government has enacted a stringent anti-copying law for ensuring a transparent process of recruitment. He said all the competitive examinations after imposition of new law have been conducted in a fair and transparent manner. The CM said that the stringent provision made in the law would prevent the copying mafia from affecting the sanctity of the examinations. “To maintain the sanctity of the recruitment examinations, I resolved to undertake the strictest possible measures. I was prepared to face any challenges and criticism in this endeavour,’’ he said.

The additional chief secretary, Radha Raturi said that the role of police is paramount in any society. Congratulating the newly appointed personnel she said that they are getting a golden opportunity to serve the people.

 The director general of police Ashok Kumar said that the Uttarakhand Police have received a new batch of constables after a gap of seven years. He said that the training of the newly appointed constables will start soon. The DGP said apart from the general training, the newly appointed constables will also be trained in new technology. He added that the process of recruitment in 538 posts of head constables, telecommunication, sub inspectors in police forensic labs is currently under process.

 The Dehradun mayor Sunil Uniyal ‘Gama’, Dharampur MLA Vinod Chamoli, additional director general of police Abhinav Kumar and senior police officers were also present on the occasion.
