In what can be termed a positive news, a recent report of Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS) shows that the unemployment rate in Uttarakhand is declining.

As per the report the unemployment rate has come down from 4.5 per cent to 4.3 per cent in all age groups in the State.  The maximum decline however, has come in the age group of 15-29 years where the unemployment rate has come down from 14.2 to 9.8 per cent.
There has also been a significant improvement in the worker population ratio in all age groups in the state in 2023-24 as compared to the year 2022-23. In the age group of 15-29 years this ratio has increased from 27.5 per cent to 44.2 per cent which indicates that more employment opportunities are available to youth in the State. The participation of youth in the labour force has also increased in the year 2023-24 as compared to the year 2022-23. In the age group of 15-29 years it has increased from 43.7 per cent to 49 per cent. The report suggests that Uttarakhand has also surpassed the national average in the working population average. In Uttarakhand, this average has been 49 per cent in the age group of 15-29, while the national average is 46.5 per cent.

Expressing happiness on the achievement chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said that the State government has taken a resolve to make Uttarakhand one of the leading states of the country.  He said that the government is endeavouring to create more and more employment opportunities.  Dhami said that employment to 16,000 youth was given in different departments of the State government in the last three years. He said that in coming years most of the investment proposals in the State will get grounded which will create lakhs of employment opportunities.
