U’khand to recruit 342 college teachers The UGC norms to be followed for these appointments
To fill the vacant posts of faculty members in the government colleges of the state, the higher education department would soon start a recruitment drive. The state administration has approved the request of the higher education directorate to recruit 342 assistant professors of different subjects in the colleges of the state. The requisition would now be sent to the Uttarakhand Public Service Commission (UPSC) which would start the recruitment process. In another development, the state administration has decided to change the recruitment regulation of the assistant professors for the government colleges. The secretary in charge, higher education, Ashok Kumar said that for recruitment of assistant professors, University Grants Commission (UGC) regulations, 2018 would be followed. This decision means that the Public Service Commission would now adopt Academic Performance Indicators (API) parameters specified by the UGC. In making the API, marks are provided for different academic qualifications, teaching and research experience. It is worth mentioning here that in the last recruitment of the 877 posts of Assistant Professors done in the year 2017, the UGC norms were not followed and instead selection was made on the basis of marks obtained in the interview which was of 100 marks. It prompted some applicants to knock at the doors of the court which granted a stay in recruitment. However before the court ordered stay the higher education department was able to appoint 200 assistant professors.
The HC has recently delivered its final decision on the issue and kept is reserved. The higher education department hopes that with court expected to clear things on the recruitment process of 877 posts and initiation of process of recruitment of 342 assistant professors, it would be able to overcome the problem of shortage of faculty in government run colleges of the state.
